Sundar Pichai and Narendra Modi

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India on Monday. “We want to build a free and inclusive internet system that works for all,” he said while congratulating Modi for taking over as chairman of the G20 group of nations.

Kharagpur IIT alumnus Pichai also tweeted about the meeting with Modi. He wrote, “Thank you Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the wonderful meeting today. The rapid change happening in technology under your leadership is inspiring. We look forward to continuing our active partnership and supporting India’s G20 presidency to build a free and inclusive internet system.”

Incidentally, Pichai was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award, this month for his contribution to business and industry. “India is a part of my life,” Pichai wrote on his blog after receiving the award from Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Wherever I go, this country is in my heart. I was lucky to be born in a family that gave special importance to education. I am thankful to my parents. They had to sacrifice a lot for my future.”

Besides, Pichai wrote “I am grateful to the Government of India and every Indian for this honour. Pichai was also present at the ‘Google for India 2022’ program on Monday. Union Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishno was present on the stage there.
